Schapelle Corby’s sentence - 20 years

The guilty verdict was just handed down to Schapelle Corby and she was sentenced to twenty years in jail, plus six months if she does not pay the A$14,000 fine also imposed. I don’t know what to say really. It’s not the life or death sentence that was hanging over the entire trial, nor was she acquitted. In this light, it’s hard to say whether it was a good (or rather, not bad) or a bad result. Naturally, her lawyers are considering an appeal, but it is hard to see whether this will gain any headway. The most compelling evidence that can be brought to bear is the cocaine smuggling by baggage handlers, which depends strongly too many unknowns and similar evidence was not well regarded in the present case. You can’t help but feel for Schapelle, and I think most of Australia believe her to be innocent. I also can’t help but think that the media circus the case denegrated into did not help matters whatsoever. Now we just have to wait for the appeal, and then for the mini-series.

somebody at a barbeque said the best thing to do was to send in some renegade sas boys in to get her out.its probably not the best thing to do politically but it seemed the spirit of the times and i thought it would make a good song.here is that story.http://www.mp3.com.au/track.asp?id=107678
