Reservoir Dogs - OFLC at it again

It’s been surprisingly quiet lately, but the OFLC have once again appeared in the news regarding the lack of game classifications over MA15+. This time it’s a bit more interesting, as the game is Reservoir Dogs, and can be directly compared to the Tarantino classic. The film is rated R18+ and is freely available, while the game will be banned from sale because it has been ‘refused classification’.

I don’t know how many times I’m going to say it on this site, but Australia clearly needs that R18+ rating for games. The biggest money maker for the industry is the 18-35 male demographic and this in turn creates a space for games with mature content. If Australia does not accomodate this move in the industry, then we will simply see more and more games refused classification and eventually, as we have seen recently, publishers will not even bother trying to have their games released here or alter them to pass the OFLC. Already, Australia has gained a reputation online for the failings or the classification system.

Ratings are there to help people responsibly decide what to buy and what not to buy, not to unfairly restrict the sale of a specific media that is largely misunderstood by the people with the power to change things.
